Parks and Recreation

Recreation facilities and activities are abundant in and around Columbia.

Residents can enjoy several parks and trails:

  • GM&O Railroad Heritage Trail  - Through the heart of Columbia

Pavilion Rental
There are four pavilion areas at Bolm-Schuhkraft park and three pavilions at Metter Park
that may be reserved: Click here for a Pavilion Reservation Applications. 
  • The parks contain walking trails, halls and pavilions, picnic areas, playgrounds and horseshoe pits.
  • The City also has two large areas in reserve for future parks use: Creekside Park (along Rueck Rd.) and a large parcel in the Admiral Trost development near Illinois Route 3.
  • Cyclists from both sides of the Mississippi River come to Columbia to begin their ride down Bluff Road and enjoy miles of the scenic American Bottoms.
  • Three large lakes and two recreational rivers are within 60 miles of Columbia.
  • Columbia is within 20 minutes of professional auto and horse racing.
  • Downtown St. Louis, 12 miles away, is home to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Blues hockey teams.
  • Day or night, people of all ages can be found enjoying the simple recreational pleasure of a walk along Columbia's Historic Main Street.
