Columbia Large Item Curbside Removal Schedule and Information


The City of Columbia offers large item curbside removal four times per year.

2017 Removal Dates


  • February 21 (Tuesday)
  • May 30 (Tuesday)
  • September 5 (Tuesday)
  • November 28 (Tuesday)
A maximum of five (5) large items are allowed. No trash stickers are needed for the first two (2) large items. The next three (3) large items will need three (3) $1.00 *trash stickers attached to each item.

*Stickers are sold at Schnucks, Columbia Market, Ace Hardware of Columbia and the Clerk’s Office at City Hall.

LARGE ITEMS ALLOWED
  • Appliances (Doors, compressors, and electric motors must be removed from appliances. Compressors and electric motors may then be discarded in the regular trash)
  • Barbecue/gas grills (no propane tanks allowed)
  • Furniture **(Glass doors, inserts, table tops, any type of glass on furniture will not be picked up unless glass is removed.  Glass may be taken to the Monroe County Recycling Center in Waterloo for a fee.)
  • Hot water heaters
  • Mattresses
  • Box springs
  • Microwaves
  • Treadmills (no need to remove motors)
  • Swing sets (have to be disassembled and no concrete attached to bottom of the legs)
  • Power washers (drain fluids and remove tires)
  • Push lawn mowers (drain fluids and remove tires)
  • Window AC units
  • Wheelchairs/motorized wheelchairs

LARGE ITEMS NOT ALLOWED:  
         
         
 Construction materials (i.e. glass, carpeting, wood, doors, paneling, drywall, windows, shutters, siding, concrete, 
                porcelain fixtures, bath tubs, toilets, cabinets, counter tops, sinks)
 
           Electronic Products (Televisions, monitors, printers, etc.)

  • Landscape waste • Tires
  • Rugs • Mirrors
  • Hot tubs • Riding lawn mowers
  • Gas and propane tanks • Organs
  • Pianos • Pool tables
  • Swimming pools • Portable basketball hoops
  • Arcade games • Camper shells

    SECOND SATURDAY RECYCLE DROP-OFF EVENTS CANCELLED INDEFINITELY

    Due to the vendor not accepting certain items and additional non-recyclable items being left on the DOPW parking lot, the City of Columbia has made the difficult decision to discontinue this service.  However, the City would like to encourage citizens to take advantage of the Monroe County Recycling Center located at 901 Illinois Avenue in Waterloo (behind the Monroe County Health Department).  Hours are M-F 8-4 & Sat 8-Noon.
