MAIN STREET
WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT

The City’s contractor, S. Shafer Excavating, has begun work on the installation of a new water main along Main Street from Whiteside Street to Jefferson Street. The project consists of replacing an 8” cast iron water main with a new 10” pvc water main.  The contractor began saw cutting the pavement on May 7.  Removal of pavement and installation of the water line should begin the week of May 21.  The contractor will start at Jefferson Street and proceed to the north. The north bound driving and parking lanes will be closed at times to facilitate construction; however, access to your business will be maintained at all times. The south bound driving lane will remain open.  During closures, a marked detour will direct traffic around to Metter Avenue and back to Main Street. At the end of each working day, the contractor has been instructed that the trench must be completely backfilled to minimize parking interruptions during the evening hours.  It is anticipated that the project will take approximately 8 to 12 weeks to complete.  As always your cooperation and patience is greatly appreciated.
